Garage Security

Ensuring that your garage is secure and protected is vital, not only to help keep your car secure if you park it in the garage but also to ensure your home and any valuables are secure as well. Studies show that about 20% of thefts are from the contents of outbuildings, of which a shocking 50% of these outbuildings are garages. In this Keytek® Auto Locksmiths guide we will be going through the different ways that you can secure your garage for the safety of your car.

Secure Your Car in Your Garage

Parking your car in your garage if you have one is the best option for keeping your car secure at night or at times when you aren't using your car. However, for this to be a great security option for you car, your garage needs to be as secure as possible, to prevent any garage break-ins.

Garage Door Security

The first step to ensuring that your car will be safe when parked in your garage is making sure that your garage door security is effective. These are the types of garage locks that we here at Keytek® Auto find the most effective when ensuring garage security for your car.

Euro Profile Cylinder Lock

These types of locks are used to prevent intruders from drilling open the main lock on the door, usually seen on garage side doors. Cylinder snapping is one of the main forced entry techniques which burglars will use to break into your garage, and gain access to your car. If you are interested in getting a Euro Profile Cylinder lock, then our locksmiths at Keytek® will happily be able to change your garage door lock to a Cylinder lock.

Multi-Point Locking Systems

A multi-point locking system is a long strip that bolts into the side of a door, locking at multiple points along the frame. They contain three deadbolts, meaning that they can reduce the chances of a break-in in your garage, therefore protecting your car.

Garage Doors for Car Security

For the security of your car, it's important to have a secure garage door to prevent the chances of somebody breaking in and stealing your car. If you are worried about the safety of your car when it's parked inside of your garage and are wanting to upgrade your garage door, then these are some good options to look into.

Remote Control for Garage Door

Roller Garage Doors

These are the most secure type of garage door available due to the nature of its design. The doors have no visible leverage points, meaning that this then becomes a challenge for burglars. There are also double skinned roller garage doors available to enhance the level of garage security for your car even more.

Sectional Garage Doors

The design of sectional garage doors makes them so secure. Similarly to a roller garage door, they have no leverage points, meaning burglars can't get access to the garage so easily. This ensures it is a great protection against all forms of force, so you can rest assured that your car will be safe when parked in the garage.

How To Secure Your Garage to Keep Your Car Safe

  1. Lighting

  2. Security Cameras and Motion Sensors

  3. Door Defenders

Lighting

As burglars normally rely on it being dark to avoid being seen, installing motion-activated flood lights near your garage doors will help to prevent any unwanted visitors from attempting to enter your garage and break-in or steal your car.

Garage Security Camera and Motion Sensor

Having a garage security camera and/or motion sensor is probably the most affective way of ensuring garage safety. Monitoring a vulnerable area is one of the best things you can do in order to establish security for your garage and for your car, with a security camera or motion sensor helping a lot. This way, you can be alerted if there is any movement or shadows in your garden by your garage, even if you aren't home.

Garage Door Defender

A garage door defender acts as a physical barrier that stops the garage door from opening, even if the door lock has been broken or opened. It is secured to the ground in front of the garage door, and is great against stopping burglars enter your garage and accessing your car, so it is worth installing one if you are worried about your garage and car security.
